California’s New Workplace Violence Standard: What Employers Need to Know

Beginning July 1, 2024, all California employers with 10+ employees must establish a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, which includes:

  • Workplace Violence Prevention Policy

  • Employer responsibility and employee participation

  • Effective procedures for reporting and responding to workplace violence

  • Assessment procedures to identify and evaluate risk factors

  • Timely correction of workplace violence hazards

  • Procedures for post-incident response and investigation

  • Periodic review of the plan

  • Violent Incident log (confidential)

  • Recordkeeping and access requirements

Additionally, California Employers must provide training on their Workplace Prevention Policy to all employees.
